Recently named GE IT Global Infrastructure Leader Alan Kocsi visited Strathmore University on the 12th August 2014.  Alan was on a familiarization visit at Strathmore University, which has a strong academic-industry partnership with GE. Part of his mission was to learn about the IT initiatives and partnership programs between Strathmore and GE.

Alan Kocsi accompanied by a team of GE executives from across the world paid a courtesy call at @iLabAfrica. The GE entourage comprised of: Jeffrey Schimpf- Global IT Shared Service Network Operations Leader, Global Ops – IT, Abubakar Sulemana- CIO GE Africa, Odukoya Adesina -IM Team Leader Operations Oil & Gas, Rahul Jain- IM Leader Business Solutions, OG-SUBS-HQ, Viljoen Jacques- SSA Regional IT Support Leader – GRES Sites, GE GGO Africa – Information Technology, Innocent Wanyama- IT operations leader East Africa, Faith Muia – PMO for SSA and Cynthia Karago-ECPD.

The team was  treated to innovation demos by students and innovators at @iLabAfrica and @iBizAfrica. Alan and his team were blown away by some of the ideas and applications developed by the students. The students had developed apps that made use of a drone for surveillance, geolocation services for locating wildlife in Kenyan parks, among others.

The GE executive delivered a speech about innovation and IT at  GE. The company is big on IT infrastructure, talent development and Cyber security as far as IT is concerned.  He further talked about  opportunities for students at the multinational giant and one of the most innovative companies in the world. GE has a big focus on talent and leadership development for its employees. The GE team engaged in a question and answer session with the students, giving them an opportunity to ask about working at GE.

This is the second time in the same year a senior GE executive has visited @iLabAfrica. This year in March, @iLabAfrica hosted Jamie Miller, senior vice president and the global CIO for GE. @iLabAfrica and GE are exploring partnership programs to continue promoting innovators in Kenya and the African continent.
